Self Guided Tour
Duration:
9 Nights
A wonderful 10-day adventure through the historical, cultural and culinary landscape of the legendary Camino de Santiago. This trip is designed for those who want to experience the essential spirit of the Camino journey.
We offer you an opportunity not only to hike in some of Spain’s most beautiful regions (Navarra, La Rioja, Castille and Galicia), but also to discover the twelve most important towns and cities along the Camino (Pamplona, Estella, Logroño, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Burgos, Carrión de los Condes, Sahagún, León, Astorga, O Cebreiro, Sarria, Santiago de Compostela). Our service includes quick and comfortable transfers between stages.
After arriving at Biarritz Airport, our private transfer will take us to Pamplona. We will check into our hotel, then stroll through the historic heart of Pamplona before enjoying our first dinner in a typical Navarran restaurant.
Overnight: Pamplona
Breakfast and transfer to Cirauqui.
Today we start our first walk, heading out from the village of Cirauqui and following well-preserved sections of the original Roman road. We continue through orchards and rolling fields until our arrival in Estella. After lunch in Estella, we transfer to Logroño, the capital of La Rioja, where we will enjoy the wonderful sights and ambience of the city before dining at Calle Laurel, a street full off fabulous restaurants serving typical local food, tapas and La Rioja wines.
Overnight: Logroño
Breakfast and transfer to Azofra.
This is a relatively undemanding stage marked by beautiful rolling terrain and the ubiquitous vineyards of La Rioja. After lunch in Santo Domingo de la Calzada, we will transfer to Burgos, where we will visit the magnificent cathedral and stroll through the city’s historic streets.
Overnight: Burgos
Breakfast and transfer to Hornillos del Camino.
This is a completely flat stage and the first of two stages crossing the famous plateau known as La Meseta. We will eat lunch in the village of Hontanas, then transfer to the historic city of Carrión de los Condes.
Overnight: Carrión de los Condes
Breakfast and transfer to Terradillos de los Templarios.
Today we hike along barren plains, encountering small Castilian villages with their typical clay-built houses. After lunch in Sahagun, we transfer to the great city of León where we will visit the beautiful Gothic cathedral and amble through narrow medieval streets.
Overnight: León
Breakfast and transfer to Santibañez.
Today we swap the flat, yellow plateaus of La Meseta for the green, undulating terrain of the Montes de León. Unlike previous days, there is no transfer after lunch in Astorga. Instead, we spend the afternoon experiencing the sights and vibe of this famous city.
Overnight: Astorga
Breakfast and transfer to Vega de Valcarce.
Today we get to enjoy the spectacular forested valleys and mountains of Galicia. After lunch in the mountaintop village of O Cebreiro, we transfer to the small historic town of Sarria, the starting point for more than half of the 200,000 pilgrims who arrive in Santiago every year.
Overnight: Sarria
Breakfast and transfer to Monte do Gozo.
This is a short and undemanding walk to our final destination, Santiago de Compostela. Today we get to share with many other international pilgrims the final kilometres leading to the Plaza del Obradoiro and the city’s beautiful cathedral. We will have lunch, then spend the afternoon soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of this great city.
Overnight: Santiago de Compostela
Two Options:
1. Tour to Cape Finisterre and Muxía. Finisterre was once thought to be the most westerly point on earth, a mythical place where, during Roman times, people believed the soul ascended to heaven. The sight of the sun descending towards the horizon, eventually merging with the ocean, is a mystical experience for many tired pilgrims.
2. For those who choose to stay in Santiago, we offer a fascinating tour of this historic city led by an experienced guide.
Overnight: Santiago de Compostela
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the end of your Camino adventure. See you next time!
