This walking tour begins in the lovely seaside town of Baiona and continues along the coast before joining the inland Portuguese Camino to Santiago de Compostela. During the first two stages, you are constantly greeted by stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the southern Galician coastline.
On the third day, you join the original inland route and press on through beautiful forests, valleys and farmlands, not to mention towns and cities of great cultural importance. This route has only recently been officially recognised and is therefore yet to be truly explored.
Your journey begins in Baiona, a very important town in the history of New World exploration. It was here that the Pinzon brothers first delivered the news of the discovery of the New World after returning from their voyages with Christopher Columbus.
Today it is a busy seaside town with lovely beaches and a vibrant atmosphere.
Overnight: Baiona
Day 2. Baiona - Vigo (24 km)

The trail continues along the bay until the city of Vigo, Galicia’s economic heart.

This is another beautiful stage that offers stunning views of the Vigo estuary, Islas Cies and Rande Bridge.
At Redondela, the coastal route joins the original inland Portuguese Camino.
You finally arrive at Arcade, situated on the edge of the Vigo estuary, where you can relax and enjoy lovely sea vistas and taste the famous local oysters.

This is a short stage that takes you through forests and over many bridges.
The stage ends in Pontevedra, which boasts a lovely historic quarter and the symbolic Church of La Peregrina (Pilgrim Virgin).

Before reaching Caldas de Reis, you can unwind by the fabulous waterfalls and natural pools of Muiñada Da Barosa.

Today’s trail meanders through a typical Galician rural landscape of charming hamlets, cultivated fields and wooded valleys.
You will finish the day in Padrón where, according to tradition, the followers of Saint James landed ashore with the Apostle’s remains.

Now you get to trace the original journey of James’ followers as they transported the Apostle’s body from their landing site in Padrón to the site of his burial at Campus Stellae (Compostela). You will arrive at Santiago through the bustling Rua Franco and go directly to Obradoiro Square where the famous Cathedral is located. After contemplating your journey in the tranquil atmosphere of the Cathedral, wander through the vibrant streets of the old Quarter or sample some local cuisine (seafood dishes, almond tarts, etc).
