Self Guided Tour
Duration:
7 Nights
Stroll the scenic 'last 100 km' trail to Santiago de Compostela, explore Orense's historic center, sample local cuisine from Cea's breads to Lalin's 'cocido,' and reflect on your journey in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, while soaking up the vibrant old town atmosphere.
A fabulous old quarter and vibrant atmosphere makes Orense the perfect place to relax, admire wonderful historic surroundings and taste some local Galician cuisine before starting your Camino the following day.
Overnight: Orense
Leave Orense via a Roman bridge over the Miño river and continue through woods and semi-abandoned villages until you reach Cea, a quiet village famous for its local bread.
Along the way you encounter some beautiful old buildings built in the Romanesque and Baroque styles.
Overnight: Cea
This is the longest stage of your journey, one that takes you along shaded trails and narrow rural roads.
From higher spots along the path, you get to enjoy superb views of farmlands and native forests.
Overnight: Estación de Botos
A short, undulating stage that leads you through a typical Galician landscape of small farms, forests criss-crossed with streams and scattered villages.
The stage ends at Silleda, a town famous for its cattle and agricultural fairs.
Overnight: Silleda
Farmsteads, crop fields and pretty meadows are some of the delights of today’s walk.
Continue through this bucolic landscape until you come to the beautiful bridge over the river Ulla and enter the small village of Ponte Ulla.
Overnight: Ponte Ulla
Of all the Camino routes, this one offers the most impressive entrance to Santiago de Compostela.
After an ascent to Pico Sacro and the Hermitage of San Sebastian, where you can enjoy more lovely views, you enter a rural landscape that continues almost right up to the city of Santiago itself.
Savour the thrill of entering the old city and arriving at the famous Cathedral.
Overnight: Santiago de Compostela
Visiting the shrine containing the Apostle’s relics in the magnificent Cathedral, wandering through the streets of the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and tasting local dishes and wines are just some of the highlights of Santiago de Compostela, one of the greatest holy cities in the world.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the end of your Via de la Plata adventure. See you next time!

Highlights:
Considered by many to be the most beautiful of all Camino routes, the Via de la Plata follows an ancient strategic road connecting important cities during Roman times such as Seville, Merida and Astorga.
Set off from the captivating old city of Orense and continue through an unspoilt countryside, admiring the region’s ancient and medieval heritage and sampling traditional cuisine and local wines as you go.
This is the least known of all the Camino routes and therefore something of a hidden gem.
